Dear Parents and Community Members:

Sahuarita Unified School District is committed to the safety and well-being of our students. When safety concerns arise, clear and timely communication is essential. This message is to share information regarding a school safety incident that occurred today at Sahuarita Middle School and briefly impacted Sahuarita High School.

Shortly before dismissal, a Sahuarita Middle School student reported a concern about possibly seeing a firearm in another student’s backpack. School administrators immediately contacted the Sahuarita Police Department. By that time, the student had already left campus in a vehicle.

Sahuarita Police Department located and stopped the vehicle just outside Sahuarita High School on Sahuarita Road. Due to the proximity to campus, Sahuarita High School was placed on a brief, five-minute shelter-in-place as a precaution. No weapon was located, and the situation was resolved quickly and without incident. There is no evidence of any threat to the school. School will proceed as normal on Thursday, January 29, 2026.

Any report that may impact student safety is taken seriously. We commend the middle school student who reported the concern promptly and appreciate the swift response of the Sahuarita Police Department.

The safety of our students and staff remains our highest priority. We encourage families to continue partnering with us by reminding students of the importance of reporting concerns immediately if they see or hear something that may impact school safety.

Should you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident or our safety protocols, please don't hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your continued partnership and support.
